In this talk, renowned Chinese novelist Jin Yucheng explores the intimate relationship between a city and its stories. Drawing on his experiences in Shanghai, he reflects on how cities are not just concrete landscapes, but living spaces filled with memories, voices, and human connections. The discussion highlights how a city can inspire writers, shape narratives, and become both a creative source and a literary home.
The talk will be conducted in Mandarin.
Jin Yucheng
Jin Yucheng is an established Chinese author who previously served as the Executive Editor-in-Chief of Shanghai Literature. He made a major impact on the literary world with his full-length novel Blossoms, for which he won the 9th Mao Dun Literature Prize. His writing style is detailed and nuanced, often using the Shanghai dialect to capture and portray urban memory. His notable works include Recollections, Chilling Light, and the essay collection Shuffling Years.
