In the exhibition This is Where We’ll Part: The Perpetual Ending of an Immortal at the Esplanade Community Wall, Nhawfal Juma’at explores the often-overlooked nature of rocks through drawing, painting, sculpture and text. In this talk, Nhawfal will share reflections on his research and image-making process while unpacking the paradox of immortality and transience, a concept central to the exhibition itself.
Nhawfal Juma'at
The practice of Nhawfal Juma'at (b.1991, Singapore) responds to his surrounding environment and everyday experiences, spotlighting occurrences that are often overlooked. Employing abstraction comprising shapes, forms, colours and lines, his conceptually driven works are translated into mediums that span painting, drawings, prints, site-specific installations and text. His works have been presented in exhibitions such as Paper Trails Between Lion and Swan, Perth, Australia (2024), NOCTURNE: Conversations with Waterloo (2022) and Intersections, Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay (2020).
