Project Samskriti, in collaboration with SIFAS Productions, presents an exploration of bhakti (devotion), inspired by the vibrant characters of Indian culture and spirituality.
Celebrate poetry and music across multiple languages, drawing inspiration from the gopis (devotees) of Vrindavan in their adoration of Sri Krishna. Witness the focused austerity of Parvati as she seeks union with her beloved, journeying through summer, monsoon rains and the icy winters of the Himalayas.
Scenes from the Mahabharata come alive as Arjuna, the warrior, battles Kirata the hunter-king in his quest for the ultimate weapon. The production also explores the complex interplay of devotion and arrogance through Ravana’s desire to bring Mount Kailash to Lanka, as imagined through the poetry of Kalidasa.
A gentle wandering mendicant offers his eyes to a curious onlooker in the hope that she may discover her inner potential, juxtaposed with reflections on surrender—to the beloved and to one’s Guru.
Finally, through abstract movement, the production explores shoonya: the movement of breath and the creation of the universe, reflecting on existence and the emptiness from which life emerges.
