“Wynton Marsalis was right, Cécile McLorin Salvant is the sort of singer who comes along only ‘once in a generation or two.”
– All About Jazz
“Salvant possesses the sort of intuition that promises to kill in a live setting; she's studied these songs and how to embody them under any circumstance. In a word, that's talent.”
– NPR Music
With an ethereal voice that rings as clear as glass, Cécile McLorin Salvant is arguably one of the most compelling jazz vocalists today. Describing her own sound as “jazz, blues, with elements of folk and musical theatre”, the three-time Grammy award winner is known to draw inspiration from historical narratives with distinct eclecticism, in a singing style that borders on the conversational. Salvant’s magnetic voice and penchant for storytelling effortlessly draws audiences into her interior world, where every word is sung with earnest intent and every narrative is delivered with conviction.
Across two intimate nights of performance, Salvant invites you to get up-close and personal with her and collaborator, pianist Sullivan Fortner. In this Singapore debut, she showcases a wide-ranging repertoire, equally composed of original compositions as well as jazz standards.
Having won the prestigious Thelonious Monk competition in 2010, Salvant received three consecutive Grammy Awards for Best Jazz Vocal Album for The Window, Dreams and Daggers and For One To Love, and was nominated for the award in 2014 for her album WomanChild. In 2020, Salvant received the MacArthur fellowship and the Doris Duke Artist Award.
