Esplanade Presents
4 Jun 2026, Thu, 3pm
(Intermission: None)
Esplanade Bay Room
Designed for educators, this workshop equips participants with essential skills to create psychologically safe spaces where students can navigate loneliness and difficult emotions. Through it, they will know how to facilitate meaningful conversations with students about their challenging feelings, learning to recognise what they are communicating through their behaviour and how to respond in ways that foster trust and emotional security. Importantly, the workshop aims to strengthen educator’s own emotional foundation for being able to hold space for students' struggles with confidence and presence.
Educators will leave with concrete tools to help students feel genuinely understood and supported, while developing sustainable practices that protect their ability to remain emotionally available in the classroom.
This workshop is recommended for Upper Primary – Lower Secondary Educators.
Learning Objectives
Through this workshop, participants will learn to:
Deepen the understanding of loneliness in children, and their search for companionship, comfort and validation, through a relational lens.
Explore how safety, trust and connection are built (or disrupted) in everyday interactions and when children may be struggling to express what they need.
Reflect on how their own relational patterns and emotional responses can affect children.
Practise compassionate language that helps children feel seen and less alone and learn practical strategies to respond to children’s emotional needs in their role of educators.
The Psychology Atelier
The Psychology Atelier is a psychology practice that applies psychological expertise with creative sensibility. With experience supporting theatre projects and community initiatives, we create psychologically safe spaces wherever we work, helping individuals, couples, families and organisations explore emotional struggles and discover pathways to meaningful connection and growth.
