How do you turn a simple tune into something rich and dynamic?
Designed specially for Educators, join Open Score Project for an engaging, hands-on workshop. Drawing inspiration from the musical performance A Sea of Stories: Music and Myths from Southeast Asia, this session introduces practical ways to foster collaboration and creativity in the music classroom.
Participants will explore the ensemble’s open-score approach, learning to create, improvise and respond to one another through sound. Guided exercises will develop skills in listening, timing and ensemble awareness, offering strategies to help students build confidence and musical sensitivity. Bring along your own instrument and experience how improvisation can nurture teamwork, imagination and joy in collective music-making.
This workshop is recommended for Music Educators.
Learning Objectives
Through this workshop, participants will learn to:
Apply open-score techniques within an ensemble setting to develop a simple melody into richer musical textures.
Facilitate collaborative music-making by guiding students to create, improvise and respond to one another through sound.
Use improvisation as a teaching tool to encourage creativity, musical sensitivity and confidence in the classroom. Design classroom activities that nurture teamwork, imagination and joyful collective music-making using flexible instrumentation.
What to Expect
Participants will be actively involved in hands-on music-making throughout the session and are encouraged to bring their own instrument to play during the workshop.
