Bond with your children and have fun learning together in these parent-child introductory ballet workshops!
From 2023, Esplanade’s beloved dance platform, da:ns festival transforms into da:ns focus, an exciting year-round season of five themed weekends of distinct focuses. Each da:ns focus weekend will also be accompanied by introductory dance workshops for all ages.
Leading up to da:ns focus – Ballet by the Bay taking place on 22 – 24 March 2024, these introductory ballet workshops will allow you to immerse yourself in ballet across six sessions.
Tailored for a range of ages, such as parent-child beginner workshops to introductory classes for adults, these workshops allow individuals to experience the poise and grace of this classical art form.
This programme is part of da:ns focus – Ballet by the Bay, a ballet lovers’ weekend of classics and neo-classical works. Be inspired by world-class productions and be introduced to new perspectives on this celebrated art form.
This workshop is specially designed for young ones aged 6 to 12 years old.
Each child must be accompanied by an adult. Accompanying adult must be 16 years old and above.
Please dress comfortably for the workshop.
About the workshop
Let Mrs Lim Soo Chern bring you and your child through simple fundamental of music and movements through fun activities! This session will introduce both parents and children to the basics of feet, finger and body dance movements, recognising rhythms and finding the freedom to move with music. The workshop will end with a short story about one of the famous ballets, providing a glimpse into the enchanting world of ballets. This workshop is recommended for children aged 6 to 10 years old.
About Lim Soo Chern
Proudly proclaiming teaching dance as her true calling, Mrs Lim has been captivating young dancers with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus for more than 40 years.
A highly respected veteran in the RAD community who has been a RAD registered teacher since 1986, Mrs Lim successfully operated her own dance school, served as external ballet examiner for LASALLE College of the Arts, and assisted NAC in assessing dance bursary applicants as well as monitoring their progress overseas.
About Dance Thrilogy
Dance Thrilogy is one of the top dance schools in Singapore. It provides high-quality training in various genres of dance, such as ballet, lyrical, jazz and tap. Learn the fundamentals of ballet through this beginners’ workshop tailored for kids and adults! This workshop covers a brief introduction to ballet as well as its basic techniques. Exercises include warm-up and partner exercises, a simple routine, and a cool-down exercise. This workshop is suitable for parents and children who are new to ballet.
About Beryl Tay
Beryl is a professional contemporary dancer and an aspiring choreographer based in Singapore. She was a former company dancer of TRDOco (Singapore), and Transitions Dance Company (London) and performed in respective company works that toured both locally and internationally to Malaysia, Indonesia the UK, and Italy. Beryl graduated from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance 20/21, Masters of Arts in Dance Performance and was awarded the Trinity Laban Dance Award. She participated in summer intensives such as OBOC Countertechnique, One Body, One Career by Anouk Van Dijk and Orsolina 28, studying and practicing the repertoire of Crystal Pite under the guidance of Sandra Marín and Jirí Pokorny. Most recently, she was invited as a dance artist to represent Singapore in a collaborative project by ASEAN and SEAMEO SPAFA, Rain Motions: Connecting (with) the Skies of Southeast Asia. Beryl is in constant practice of combining her knowledge and experience over the years to expand her craft and artistry.
About One Dance Asia
One Dance Asia (ODA) is dedicated to creating a safe and inviting environment for dancers of all ages to ignite and rekindle their love and appreciation for dance as an art form.
Specialising in the genres of ballet, contemporary, lyrical, jazz and street jazz, ODA seeks to provide students with multiple platforms for arts education beyond the four walls of the classroom. ODA aspires to build up the next generation of changemakers in the local dance community and beyond.
