Welsh singer-songwriter Novo Amor (aka Ali Lacey) finally makes his way to Asia for two unmissable evenings of “trembling, spectral beauty” (MOJO).
Known for his delicate and airy falsetto paired beautifully with instrumental accompaniments, Lacey has been winning over fans with his soulful sound and minimalist lyrics since 2012. Be transported to a space filled with Novo Amor’s beautiful soundscapes, as Lacey performs with frequent collaborator Ed Tullett, backed by a full band featuring strings, keys, guitars and drums.
Novo Amor (aka Ali Lacey)
Ali Lacey began Novo Amor as a project of sorts—an act of defiance in the wake of a break-up—but along the way, quite unexpectedly, he found something rich and rewarding. Many years ago, a summer spent by an evergreen-surrounded lake in upstate New York supplied both the impetus and imagery that he would use to craft his debut album Birthplace (2018). On his latest release, Cannot Be, Whatsoever (2020), Lacey contemplates a past soundtracked by songs of quiet hope and longing.
“I can still see the lake upstate when I picture the Birthplace songs, sheltered by this place I’ve romanticised, that doesn’t actually exist anymore. My new songs feel immediate and noisy in comparison, almost optimistic. If Birthplace is the countryside, then Cannot Be, Whatsoever is the city.”
