Asmuri of The Hornets
Asmah Atan
Asmah Atan started singing at age 16 when she took part in one of Singapore’s interschool singing competitions in 1966, where she emerged as one of the finalists. In 1968, she joined pop yeh yeh band The Teruna and recorded two hit songs, Muda Remaja and Gelombang Kan Beralun.
At the peak of her career, she quit the industry to pursue a new route and freelanced as a voice actor for radio dramas on RTS.
June Abdullah
Lead singer of The Cliffters, June Abdullah is well-known for her hit song, Di Mana Bahagia. After departing from The Cliffters, she sang with the Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) Orchestra and performed extensively in Singapore and Malaysia, and has done so up to present day.
Rudi Salim & The Wisma II
The youngest child of late singer Salim I of The Wisma, Rudi Salim is the founder, percussionist, and singer of local Malay traditional group, Nobat Kota Singa. He started singing at eight years old and grew up watching his father perform at various showcases in Singapore and Malaysia.
In 2015, Rudi formed the Wisma II to pay tribute to his father’s legacy and to keep the spirit of pop yeh yeh alive!
Dato L. Ramli
Dato L. Ramli recorded his hit song, Dara Pujaan, in 1962 with Orkes Teruna Ria when he was only 20 years old. This hit song stayed in the Malaysian charts for 14 weeks straight. His other songs, Siapa Bilang Aku Tak Sayang and Ayahku Kawin Lagi are still favourites amongst pop yeh yeh fans today. Now in his 80s, this Penang-born artist is still actively performing till today.
