Synopsis

Anurāgā is a term that can mean attachment, devotion, passion or eternal love. In this performance, Hindustani vocalist Narenda will showcase four pieces. The beginning features a madhya lay (medium tempo) composition in Raag Malkauns about playful love, followed by a drut (fast tempo) khayal in the same raag about wistful love. This will be followed by a bhajan on the divine feminine, and concluding with a bhajan in Raag Chandrakauns showing devotional yearning. Through these mellifluous pieces set to evening raags, Narenda presents Anurāgā, the different hues of love.

Artist Information

Narendra Suhas Jagannathan

Narendra Suhas Jagannathan has been learning Hindustani vocal singing under guru Susanta Chowdhury at SIFAS since 2012. Having learnt the Carnatic style of Indian classical music at a very young age, Suhas moved to explore the other major Indian music style—Hindustani much later in life. He currently holds a diploma in Hindustani vocals and has regularly performed and been part of multiple live and digital productions at SIFAS. He has also given performances as part of the SIFAS music festival Kalavaibhavam, performed as a member of the Singapore Indian Orchestra and Choir (SIOC), and at Esplanade during Kalaa Utsavam and as part of the Cool Classics series.
