Margasatwa (pronounced “mergastua”) is a Malaysian psychedelic fusion rock band known for reviving the sound of 1970s Nusantara rock with a modern twist. Formed in 2016, the five-member group blends jazz, Malay folk, ballads, psychedelia, and hard rock into a signature fusion rock/ballad style that has made them one of the most distinctive acts in Malaysia’s independent music scene.

With a bold 1970s-inspired aesthetic and a sound that fuses Malay psychedelic rock with contemporary fusion, Margasatwa has become one of Malaysia’s most compelling musical acts. Taking their name from the Indonesian word for “wildlife,” the band channels raw creativity, theatrical energy, and artistic exploration in every performance.
Formed in 2016, Margasatwa brings together five musicians from across Malaysia. The band’s sound blends elements of jazz, Malay folk, traditional music, ballads, hard rock, and psych-rock into a unique fusion rock/ballad identity. Their theatrical stage presence complete with poetry, acting, improvisation, and visual art has set them apart in the independent circuit.
Their debut album Margasatwa (2019) and earlier single Ego (2018) received praise across mainstream and indie audiences, leading to festival bookings, national television appearances, and strong underground support. Today, Margasatwa continues to redefine the modern Nusantara rock sound through bold experimentation and deeply Malaysian storytelling with their last album Seribudaya (2024).
