Synopsis

Chinese New Year is a time of renewal, reunion, and joyful celebration. In this festive programme, Reverberance presents a vibrant selection of Chinese wind-percussion works that capture the spirit, colour, and energy of the season.

Rooted in Chinese musical traditions yet shaped by contemporary Singaporean sensibilities, the repertoire showcases the expressive power of wind and percussion instruments—from bold ceremonial gestures to playful, dance-like moments. Alongside familiar traditional Chinese New Year melodies, this programme also features festive works by Singaporean composers who reimagine the sounds of the season through a local lens, reflecting the evolving identity of Chinese ensemble music in Singapore.

Reverberance is an award-winning Chinese wind-percussion ensemble dedicated to advancing this art form in Singapore.

Founded by a collective of passionate, talented musicians trained at leading music conservatories and universities both locally and overseas, the group has distinguished itself on national and international stages.

In 2018 and 2020, Reverberance consecutively achieved the highest accolade in the Singapore Chinese Music Competition (SCMC), demonstrating its outstanding artistic excellence. In 2024, its Youth Ensemble also clinched the championship, showcasing the talent and potential of the next generation of Chinese wind percussion musicians.

The ensemble has also earned top honours at international competitions, including winning First Prize with a perfect score at the prestigious 2025 Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in the UK, further underscoring its exceptional artistry and global recognition.

Additionally, the ensemble has curated a series of innovative concerts, including the vibrant Blast Chinese New Year concert, the storytelling-driven Legends concert, and Opus, a platform dedicated to showcasing original works by Singaporean composers. These concerts not only highlight the expressive power and diversity of Chinese wind percussion music but also deepen audiences’ appreciation and understanding of this art form. Beyond the concert stage, Reverberance has made a notable impact through community outreach, receiving the People’s Association Community Spirit Award for its engagement initiatives, particularly with senior citizens.

The ensemble’s international performances, such as at the 8th China-ASEAN Music Festival in Guangxi, China, further underscore its commitment to excellence and cultural exchange.

Driven by a mission to elevate Chinese wind percussion arts, Reverberance continues to inspire and enrich the musical landscape of Singapore and beyond through collaborative artistry and community involvement.
