Esplanade Concourse
Keroncong emerged as an adaptation of Portuguese musical traditions brought by sailors to Indonesian port cities in the 16th century. By the late 19th century, it had grown into a popular music form across the Indonesian archipelago, later extending to Malaysia and Singapore as part of the wider spectrum of Malay music.
Nobat Kota Singa, an active keroncong ensemble in Singapore, presents a showcase featuring keroncong asli and langgam repertoire alongside traditional and contemporary Malay songs. The programme highlights the depth and richness of the genre, celebrating its intricate cak–cuk rhythms, distinctive cello techniques, and the flowing melodic lines of guitar and violin.
