Synopsis

Kunwu is a contemporary dance style originating from kunqu, one of the oldest and most refined styles of traditional Chinese opera. Developed by first-class choreographer Professor Ma Jiaqin, kunwu extracts the finest elements of kunqu, creating a new art form rich in the essence of Jiangnan culture and humanistic emotion. Since its inception in 2003, this gentle art formhas emerged as the fourth major style of Chinese classical dance, following the schools of shenyun, han tang and dunhuang.

Led by Professor Ma, this talk and demonstration session offers audiences of all ages and backgrounds a glimpse into the history, artistry and signature movements of kunwu. Participants will discover the rich heritage and unique qualities of this mesmerising art form, gain a deeper appreciation of its elegant beauty and maybe even learn a movement or two!
