About Baybeats Budding Programmes

Catch the live auditions for Baybeats Budding Bands!

The second round of auditions for the Baybeats Budding Bands programme puts the shortlisted bands to the test in a live setting with an audience. The bands will be assessed not only on their compositions and musicality, but their stage presence and performance skills as well.

Audiences are welcome to watch these auditions, which are free to attend by registration. This is a chance for the public to show their support for the bands and to discover new Singapore artists.

Day 1: 3 Aug, Sat

5.45pm – 6.15pm

Bear The Remedy

Bear The Remedy, a dynamic alternative rock band, has been writing music since 2021 and released their first songs on Spotify in 2024. Known for not resting on a single genre, they blend heartfelt and insightful lyrics with rich melodies and rhythms across various styles.

6.30pm – 7pm

Maneloren

Maneloren is an indie/alt rock band that boasts a wide range of sonic flavours, ranging from lush indie textures, new wave electronics, and rocking riffs. The band draws influence from acts such as Foals, Angels & Airwaves and Bombay Bicycle Club.

7.15pm - 7.45pm

Pathetic Ordinary

Pathetic Ordinary is a dynamic five-piece easycore/pop-punk band, known for their heartfelt lyrics on friendship and heartbreak. They have steadily garnered attention in the music scene since 2018, when they released their debut EP Forget It, I’m in a Better Place. In 2021, they secured Rock Artist of the Year at the Bandwagon Youth Music awards. They aim to redefine the pop-punk genre and make a lasting impact on Singapore’s music scene.

8pm – 8.30pm

Heaven Brought Me Hell

Heaven Brought Me Hell is a progressive technical death metal band from Singapore that blends symphonic orchestrations, technical drumming and guitar riffs with heavy-hitting death metal vocals to create a sonic introspective journey.

Day 2: 4 Aug, Sun

5pm – 5.30pm

WOOD

WOOD was a band formed to pass a music class. Now they are a multi-faceted, multi-genre collective of spirited and fun-loving creatives, who aim to make music that moves you.

5.45pm – 6.15pm

The Storms Upon Us

The Storms Upon Us is a two-piece garage rock band from Singapore, formed in 2018. The duo consists of Nathan Mark (vocals, lead guitar & harmonica) and Teo Kai Wen (drums). Their electrifying sound is largely rooted in blues/garage rock, while still drawing from numerous influences such as punk, funk, metal, R&B, psychedelic, indie rock and more. The duo translates their bold and daring experimentations into raw, high-octane live shows, promising an experience that is simultaneously unforgiving and undeniable.

6.30pm – 7pm

Sindo

Here’s what happens when two ambient soundscape nerds meet a bassist who is adamant about 70s funk and a drummer who couldn’t care less about what happens beyond the cymbals: a stir-fry of unexpanded energies coming from mundane 9-5ers with yet-to-be-realised musical ambitions, wok-tossed to rhythmic perfection.

Enter Sindo, a Singaporean psychedelic rock quartet consisting of guitarists Harith Mustaffa and Rudy Swandi, drummer Zairudy Zairunie and bassist Hilmi “Phil Mango” Eddie Shah, named after a building which houses a jamming studio in a printing shop.

7.15pm – 7.45pm

730BEDSIDE

It’s summer all year round with 730BEDSIDE: fusing elements of hip hop and indie rock, the band breaks away from the conventional limitations of genre, choosing instead to focus on the atmospheres that their music conjures. Proudly representing Woodlands, these north-siders are known for their groovy, infectious melodies that is guaranteed to get you moving.

This is a closed-door audition, schedule is subject to change.

About ticket registration

  • Patrons are required to register for tickets to each day of the auditions. If you would like to attend both days of auditions, please register separately for each of the days.
  • Each SISTIC account entitles you to register for only ONE (1) ticket per day. Sharing of ticket is strictly not allowed.
  • Entry to the venue is based on first-come-first-served for ticket holders, and does not guarantee entry to the venue. Admission will stop once the venue reaches full capacity, and audience members will only be admitted on a one-out, one-in basis.
  • If you exited the venue and would like to enter again, please queue up for re-entry.

Audience participation

  • Please respect all parties that are present in the venue and refrain from language, actions and behaviour that may be disrespectful, hurtful or offensive to others.
  • Baybeats reserves the right to remove disruptive individuals from the venue.
  • Have fun and look out for one another—remember that we are all here for a common goal of supporting the bands on stage.

1. Do I need to get tickets to watch the bands audition?

All patrons will need to register for a ticket online via esplanade.com/baybeats. Each ticket allows the ticket holder multiple entries into the venue for the respective day. If you would like to attend both days of auditions, please register separately for each day.

2. I did not register for a ticket online. Can I still attend the auditions?

A limited number of tickets may be available at the entrance of the venue. Should they be available, patrons will be required to register for tickets onsite.

3. Can I bring children below the age of 6?

Due to the nature of the event, children below the age of 6 will not be allowed entry into the venue.

4. I am below the age of 16 but above 5 years old and I’m unable to register for a SISTIC account to get a ticket. Can I still watch the show?

Patrons aged between 6 and 15 may be allowed entry to the venue without registering for a ticket. Our ushers at the door will issue audiences in this age group a wristband for entry. All wristbands are non-transferable.

5. Why are the performances short?

This is the second round of auditions as part of the Baybeats Budding Band programme and not an actual full-length performance. As part of the auditions, the shortlisted bands will present up to three of their best songs in front of an audience as well as a team of mentors. Only a selected number of bands from the auditions will proceed to perform a full set at Baybeats, which takes place from 11 – 13 Oct 2024, Fri – Sun.

6. Can we stay throughout for all the auditions?

Yes, each ticket is valid for the respective day and audiences can stay on to watch all the bands auditioning for that respective day.

7. Is re-entry allowed for the auditions?

Re-entry is allowed on a first-come, first-served basis and dependent on the number of audience members in the venue at that moment. If you have exited the venue and would like to enter again, please keep your wristband or ticket, and queue up at the entrance of the venue for re-entry.

8. Why am I not allowed into the venue when I have a ticket?

The number of audience members in the venue is capped for everyone’s safety. Entry into the venue is based on first-come, first-served basis for ticket holders, and does not guarantee entry into the venue. Admission will stop once the venue reaches full capacity, and audience members will only be admitted on a one-out, one-in basis.

9. Why is registration required when the auditions are free?

As a safety precaution, the number of people in the venue cannot exceed its capacity limit. Hence, to help us keep track of the number of people admitted into the venue, audiences are required to register for their own tickets, which are strictly non-transferable.

The Baybeats Budding Bands mentorship programme is an artist development programme within Baybeats Festival that identifies independent Singapore bands with the potential to excel. It provides new bands the opportunity to gain insights, network and hone their craft through a mentorship programme with Singapore’s music veterans and an opportunity to present their music on an established platform.

At the end of the two-month mentorship programme, selected bands will have an opportunity to perform a 30-minute set at Baybeats 2024, presented by Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay. These bands will be profiled alongside other prominent local and overseas acts in Esplanade’s marketing channels as well as at Baybeats 2024. The programme aims to open up pathways for future opportunities for the selected bands, such as sponsorship, performances and a career in music. Bands will each receive an honorarium for their performance at Baybeats 2024.
