Bobby Singh began his music career at a very young age, growing up in a musically inclined family. His journey started at the age of five as part of the family band. He later became a student at the Pracheen Kala Kendra Music School in New Delhi, where he graduated in Indian classical music. He specialises in the tabla, one of the most revered instruments in Indian classical tradition.
In addition to Indian classical and Western music, Bobby has expanded his musical versatility to include Eastern European influences. He now plays a wide range of percussion instruments —essentially any skin instrument that produces sound. A sensitive and passionate musician, Bobby’s dedication and discipline are evident in the expressive quality of his performance.
Bobby is proficient in a variety of musical styles and genres including pop, jazz, Brazilian and Latin music. His ongoing exploration of world rhythms has led him to become a recognised figure both locally and internationally. His adaptability and improvisational skills, honed through years of experience and exposure, have allowed him to perform alongside a host of reputable artists from Singapore and beyond.
A skilled session musician, Bobby also specialises in African and Latin American rhythms. He is particularly adept at playing Western drums and the Peruvian cajon (drum box). Other percussion instruments he plays include Indian skin drums, congas, bongos, timbales, djembe, udu, darabouka, surdo drums, tamborim and timbal.
Beyond performance, Bobby has been appointed by Singapore Ministry of Education and the National Arts Council to teach music.
