Dvořák’s Wind Serenade charms with radiant, folk-inspired melodies, highlighting the expressive beauty of wind instruments, enriched by the cello and double bass who are members of the wind orchestra family. Mozart’s Serenade No. 12 for winds is unique among his serenades for being written in a minor key. It starts off dark and dramatic and ultimately resolves in a jubilant C major. This remarkable work was later transcribed by Mozart himself for string quintet (K.406).
