What does it mean to be at a loss for words—literally? How do we express ourselves with words that don’t exist?
Join multilingual poets, Cara Ow and Shane Carroll, as they experiment with new ways of expression in their endangered languages of Baba Malay and Kristang. Expect to be engaged in a night of spoken word, experimental soundscapes and conversation as performers and audiences find collective joy and connection across seemingly moribund languages.
No tickets will be issued. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Cara Ow
Cara is a body most regularly occupied by experimental poetry. Currently, their poems explore willful, sometimes playful, miscommunication arising from revitalizing languages and unspeakable histories.
The second-place recipient of the 2021 Hawker Prize, Cara has facilitated workshops at the 2023 Singapore Writers’ Festival and placed third in the Grand Poetry Tournament, amongst other live and text-based appearances.
Shane Carroll
Shane writes for both work and play. By day he’s a copywriter. By night he’s a poet, punster, and everything in between. He is the author of Stories by the River, a poetry collection set around the Singapore River, and co-author of Ki Sorti, a graphic novel about Eurasian heritage, culture, and identity.
