Synopsis

“To know one’s self is to know one’s history. To know one’s history is to know one’s land. To know one’s land is to know one’s sea.”

dengan semangat takes inspiration from nor's 2021 essay in Making Kin: Ecofeminist Essays from Singapore. This performance examines the ties between the self with memories of the land and sea. Through nor's spoken word poetry, interwoven with musical responses by Malika Avani, the presentation explores the enduring question of what it truly means to belong.
