Join Monks of Music for a night of fun and nostalgia as they perform some of their childhood favourite hits from the ‘80s and ‘90s. Three passionate musicians from Singapore (Suma Balakrishna, Karl Anish Luis, Lavanya Sampath) are coming together as Monks of Music, to bring you a memorable evening filled with nostalgic music from the ‘80s and ‘90s. Get ready to be serenaded in Tamil, Hindi and English as we bring you a fun filled experience.
No tickets will be issued. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Karl was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and picked up the interest of music at a very young age. Karl’s interest in music comes from his childhood where he listened to various kinds of musical genres and was inspired to embark on this musical journey. Karl is currently based in Singapore and is a full-time musician. He is a music educator, performer, guitarist, singer as well as a music producer. He is well versed in various genres such as pop, blues, rock, jazz fusion, and country. He is also known for fusing his style of playing with traditional music such as Middle-Eastern music and Carnatic music. He has performed for corporate events, musical theatres, residential gigs, various institutions and for various television series. He is a full-time busker, a session guitarist and has featured in various independent artists songs and albums as well as local film scores. He has produced music for independent artists as well as Singaporean films.
A media professional in Singapore’s media industry, Lavanya is a singer and music teacher. Trained in both Carnatic and Hindustani forms of music, Lavanya performs Classical music concerts as well collaborations with artists from other musical genres, from across the world. Lavanya is a constant performer in the Singapore music scene in Singaporean bands, Cultural shows, musical theatre, and Singapore National television and radio station programs. Students from her music school, ‘Tat Tvam Asi’ are part of many musical productions in Singapore.
Hailing from a musical family, Carnatic music has been ingrained into Suma Balakrishna since childhood. She has been performing in events all through her school and college including talent shows on Indian television and radio.
She is a polyglot and is fluent in 9 languages. After training in Hindustani music and Carnatic music, she has been performing at the Esplanade, Suntec Convention Centre, Mediacorp Vasantham, The Indian Heritage Centre, various Cultural shows at Community Clubs, Weddings and Resto bars in Singapore.
A Biotechnologist by graduation, a Singer, Artist, Brewer and a Travel Blogger by passion, she is a freelance Assistant Producer for Mediacorp, a Reiki Healer and a Past Life Regression Therapist.
