Let your spirit take flight in Birds of Fantasy, where artists from different background get together to express the powerful feeling of freedom and transcendence above adversities. Artist Jacky Mak, recognised for large impressionistic artworks, will paint an artwork live, set to melodic tunes performed by classical musicians David Loke, Charmaine Teo and Dingchao Huang. Fly free in this multi-sensory performance that is sure to delight your eyes and ears!
No tickets will be issued. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Charmaine Teo
Winner of the President’s Young Performer Concert 2021, Charmaine Teo is a concert harpist lauded by The Straits Times for her “nimble fingers and consummate musicianship” during her solo debut with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. She has clinched top prizes in international competitions such as the Camac Harp Taiwan Competition and been invited to perform at a plethora of international events including the Asia Harp Festival. Her orchestral endeavours took her to perform with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Sichuan Symphony Orchestra. Outside performing, Charmaine enjoys teaching and is currently the harp faculty at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA).
David Loke
Violinist David Loke is a multi-faceted musician. Trained in classical and jazz performance, David is active as a performer, bandleader, composer, producer and arranger. An artist faculty at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (YSTCM), he also works for the Music & Drama Company. David graduated with a Bachelors of Music from YSTCM. He received his Masters from the Yale School of Music, and in jazz performance from the New England Conservatory of Music. As a performer, David traverses solo and chamber classical repertoire alongside pop and jazz settings.
Dingchao Huang
Dingchao is a composer-pianist who writes music across a wide range of genres, from classical to commercial. He graduated from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music where he was awarded the prestigious SR Nathan Scholarship. He completed his postgraduate studies in the USA, where he studied on full scholarship with Pulitzer Prize winner Zhou Long and Chen Yi. Dingchao is also a passionate music educator, believing it to be an investment in the next generation. On a personal note, his dream aside from having his music played all over the world one day, is to see it with his eyes.
Jacky Vs The Wall
Jacky Mak (a.k.a Jacky Vs The Wall) is most well-known for his large impressionistic murals of landscapes, plants and animals. He has participated in several physical and virtual exhibitions including events in the UK and the Canary Islands, and has been commissioned for murals by restaurants such as Jekyll & Hyde, Bella Italia and Graft & Dagger, as well as town councils across Singapore in locations such as Serangoon and Pearl’s Hill Terrace. Jacky has also dabbled with set design for films featured in the Singapore International Film Festival such as Tiong Bahru Social Club (2020) and Auntie Oh Lives in Your Memories (2021).
