Varsha is not your average group of performers.
With rhythmic music as the foundation for compelling improvisations, this young group of five musicians delivers exactly what its name promises—a soul-drenching shower of music styles ranging from jazz and Indian classical to popular Indian music.
The diversity of musical traditions that Sai Vigneshwar, Sai Akileshwar, Tony Makarome, Md Noor and Paul Danial represent is paralleled by each musician’s maturity in his respective genre. Varsha are a synergy of styles—with musical roots that are primarily Indian, the group finds inspiration in the likes of Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Steve Gadd, John McLaughlin, L Shankar, Zakir Hussain, Mandolin U Srinivas, Shakti and The Mahavishnu Orchestra.
Each song that Varsha presents is both challenging and thrilling for the musicians. Varsha’s originals are a pure conversation between five musicians of different specialities. The music belongs to, and yet, goes beyond traditions.
Having had two sold out performances at Singapore International Festival of Arts 2019, Varsha has spurred on to record their debut EP which is slated to be released soon.
