thecolorfractal is the brainchild of singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer Weiwen Seah. He was signed to independent record label Big Ear Musica at the tender age of 16 under the moniker For This Cycle. This successful partnership saw Weiwen releasinge two EPs and a single, and collecting accolades along the way. This includes Noise Singapore’s Song of the Year in 2010, and Best Breakthrough Act on Mediacorp’s Live ’N’ Loaded. Weiwen’s previous project also saw him selling out headline shows, performing to crowds at the Youth Olympic Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies, and sharing stages at festivals with musical giants such as Kool and the Gang.
Since then, Weiwen has gone on to pursue a formal education in music, graduating Magna Cum Laude from the prestigious Berklee College of Music with a dual major in Songwriting and Contemporary Writing & Production. Equipped with new skills and inspiration, thecolorfractal’s debut EP in metanoia, released in August 2018, has since garnered over a million streams across online streaming platforms, achieving placements in over 10 Spotify Editorial Playlists such as New Music Friday, Apple Music’s Best of the Week and The A-List: Singapore Music’s playlists. The EP was also added to Singapore Airline’s In-Flight Entertainment System to showcase local home-grown talent to travellers across the world. Most recently, Weiwen released a genre-defying collaborative single featuring Gail Belmonte and Leo Goh (Fingerfunk) in 2020.
As a professional musician, Weiwen has also served as a session musician, producer and arranger for artists spanning a wide range of genres. Examples include Joi Chua, Marcus Lee Jun Wei and Tinbox Resident Band amongst many others.
In 2022, Weiwen is set to release a new body of works as an original artist. Still deeply rooted in the singer-songwriter tradition, the upcoming release will incorporate elements of soul, funk, jazz and blues to create a fresh sound that is unique to thecolorfractal.
