Spanning centuries and cultures, the ruan and the traverso (also known as the baroque flute) are paired in this unique concert performed by Jonathan Ngeow and Cheryl Lim. Enjoy folk music played with these period instruments and discover some interesting characteristics of these wonderful gems!
Mask-wearing is required for all indoor events. No tickets will be issued. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Jonathan Ngeow
Jonathan Ngeow is one of the most sought-after ruan musicians of his generation. His ability to captivate audiences with his intrinsic musicianship and dynamic presence, coupled with his passion for advocating Chinese music through his media presence, redefines what it means to be a Chinese instrumentalist, making him one of the leading ruan musicians of today. Currently pursuing his Masters of Music Leadership at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, Jonathan graduated with First Class Honours from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in partnership with the Royal College of Music (London) and the Central Conservatory of Music (Beijing) under the tutelage of Madam Zhang Rong Hui.
Cheryl Lim
Cheryl has performed recitals and concerts on both modern and period flutes at Singapore's performing venues, as well as overseas in the US, UK, Europe and Asia. She was awarded the Clinton Lee Arrowood Memorial Prize for excellence in modern flute performance upon her doctoral graduation at Peabody Conservatory back in 2014, and previously attended the Manhattan School of Music for her Masters. Cheryl is currently Artist Faculty (flute) at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (her alma mater) and an adjunct lecturer (flute) at NAFA. She also holds the title of Subject Head of the IBCP, a programme that focuses on developing artistic excellence, at SOTA.
