Esplanade Concourse
Wolfberry is a musical project by vocalist-pianist Sarah Chew featuring EJ Hughes (saxophone), Joe Lee (guitar), Siheng Teng (bass) and Khoo Shen-En (drums). At this performance, no genre, style or form is off-limits. Here the voice becomes an instrument and the instrument becomes a voice. Join them for an evening of musical exploration—where styles collide, blend and are reimagined for a new era.
Sarah Chew
Sarah Chew is a jazz vocalist and pianist from Singapore. As an alumnus of Esplanade's Mosaic Jazz Fellows mentorship initiative, Sarah has performed at Singapore Night Festival, the Singapore International Festival of the Arts, Jeremy Monteiro's Jazzy Christmas Concert in 2021 and BNY presents Jazz Live! 2022 with the Yoko Suzuki Quartet, a concert series in partnership with MCG Jazz.
Joe Lee
Joe Lee pursued his BA Hons degree in Jazz at LASELLE College of the Arts and graduated with first class honors. Since then, he has amassed a wealth of stage experience, collaborating with the Jazz Association Singapore Orchestra (JASSO), as well as with local jazz luminaries like Jeremy Monteiro, Louis Soliano, Wei Xiang Tan and Chok Kerong, among others. He has also collaborated with artists across a range of musical genres and across art forms including poetry, dance, theatre and visual arts.
Siheng Teng
Siheng Teng is a versatile bassist based in Singapore, and spent several years performing in Pittsburgh’s vibrant music scene. He had the privilege of working with artists such as Roger Humphries Sr., Tony Campbell, Howie Alexander III, and Hugo Cruz. He was also part of several musical projects including Hugo Cruz and Caminos and the Brian Edwards Excursion. He continues to perform jazz, fusion, soul, R&B, and contemporary styles with other musical collaborators.
Khoo Shen-En
Khoo Shen-En is a local drummer who loves jazz and has been an active member of the Singapore jazz music scene.
EJ Hughes
EJ Hughes is a saxophonist who recently relocated from the United States to Singapore’s music scene. He has performed, taught and studied in cities including New York City, Atlanta, Orlando, and Singapore. EJ has performed with GRAMMY award-winning artists at festivals, concerts, as well as on cruise ships and venues internationally. As a bandleader, he has released two albums featuring original music. He is now based in Singapore as a permanent resident, performs regularly and teaches at LASALLE College of the Arts and Singapore Raffles Music College. EJ is an endorsing artist for P Mauriat Saxophones and JodyJazz Saxophone mouthpieces.
