Synopsis

A musical conversation. A meeting of musical voices. A sharing of heartfelt stories. INTERPLAY brings together Indonesian jazz vocalist Soukma and Singaporean pianist, conductor, and jazz virtuoso Weixiang Tan for an evening of soulful jazz.

 

Known for her rich, expressive artistry shaped by jazz legends and Indonesian musical heritage, Soukma’s soulful presence meets Weixiang’s “ruthlessly inventive” musicianship and globally celebrated improvisational language.

 

Together, they create a dynamic musical dialogue where tradition and modernity, melody and freedom, elegance and surprise converge. Through reimagined jazz standards, original interpretations, and spontaneous exchange, INTERPLAY celebrates the authenticity and beauty of jazz. Just two musicians on stage, each bringing their unique perspectives, and discovering new musical possibilities together.

Soukma and Weixiang Tan bring together two distinctive voices in Asian jazz. Widely known as “the petite lady with the big sassy voice,” Soukma has captivated audiences across Indonesia and beyond with her vocal mastery and expressive blend of elegance, soul, and jazz tradition.

 

Joining her is acclaimed Singaporean pianist, educator, and conductor Weixiang Tan, whose virtuosity and inventive musicianship have earned him widespread recognition on the international stage. Together, they create a dynamic musical dialogue—bridging cultures, influences, and generations through a shared passion for jazz, spontaneity, and artistic storytelling.
