Synopsis

Enjoy an evening of lively big band tunes from the 1940s to present day. Hear iconic jazz melodies such as A String of Pearls by Glenn Miller and His Orchestra, jazz classic Sentimental Journey and Jumpin’ at the Woodside—a high-energy number recorded in 1938 by one of the swing era’s finest bands, Count Basie Orchestra. Audiences will also be treated to a rendition of another signature Count Basie tune, April in Paris, which was featured in the 1974 comedy hit Blazing Saddles.

Thomson Big Band

Thomson Big Band is one of Singapore’s most popular and well-known jazz ensembles. The band boasts a versatile repertoire, delighting audiences with music from the golden age of swing to modern-day funk and smooth jazz. Since 1994, they have entertained guests at many corporate and private celebrations, and brought their robust sound to jazz festivals both here and abroad. The highly sought after band has had the honour of performing for royalty and heads of state including the Prince and Princess of Monaco, His Majesty King Bhumibol of Thailand and former President of Singapore S R Nathan.
