Alunan Kampung Gelam presents a selection of stories and songs, featuring poems from Ann Peters’ children’s book Farrer Park: Rhyming Verses from a Singapore Childhood, paired with arrangements of lesser-known children’s songs evocative of a vintage Singapore.
Alunan Kampung Gelam
Alunan Kampung Gelam is a musical collective comprising siblings Azura Farid (vocals) and Almira Farid (vocals and guitar), and friends. The collective shines a spotlight on their stories behind the songs they sing. Over the last two years, they have been gathering regularly at their family home in Kampung Gelam (the same home where their grandfather and mother were born), to make music and create new memories of their beloved neighbourhood. Their musical interests are an eclectic mix of opera, classical music, Irish/Scottish folk music, and vintage songs of the Nusantara and beyond.
