(Intermission: None)
Esplanade Black Room
Open to all dance students and practitioners.
Exploring rhythmic structures and patterns (konnakkol) in South Indian classical music, the workshop will emphasise the connection between technique, musicality, mental agility, and the bodily integration of patterns.
B. C. Manjunath
Manjunath revealed an innate musical talent even as a young boy and imbibed the best of Carnatic talavadya from his parents. He later broadened his musical perspective by training in mridangam under Karnataka Kalashree K. N. Krishna Murthy and Sangeetha Kalanidhi Sri T. K. Murthy.
Manjunath’s creative impulses have flowered in various forms, from classical to fusion, and in solo and ensemble performances. He has accompanied many greats from India and abroad, including Sangeetha Kalaratna, Sri R. R. Keshavamurthy, Sangeetha Kalaratna Sri H. P. Ramachar and other iconic figures. He has also shared the stage with international legends like Kani Karaca, famous Turkish Sufi singer and Robin Eubanks, premier jazz trombonist of his generation. He has collaborated with composers Rafael Reina, Riccardo Nova and institutions such as the Conservatorium of Amsterdam, taking part in festivals such as Zagreb Music Biennale, Perth International Festival, Roma Europe Festival, to name a few.
Manjunath previously toured with Akram Khan Company in Massachusetts and performed 175 shows around the world over two years.
