Yuva presents a performance showcasing the beauty of classical Indian dance, themed around movement as rhythm in poetry. The performance begins with a dance set to the jugalbandi (duet) song Laya Kavithai, composed by Karaikudi Mani and T. A. Kaliyamurthy, which shows how beats support music. This song will also help to bring contrast between the dancers’ adavus (basic steps that exemplify pure dancing) and rasas.
The next performance is a Mysore Jathi, where the dancers express how one can perform the jathis (beats) with different emotions, known as navarasas in Bharatanatyam. Out of the nine navarasas, Yuva has chosen four predominant emotions of daily life—love, anger, shantham (peace) and veeram (courage).
Mask-wearing is optional. However, audiences are encouraged to continue to exercise responsibility and caution, such as wearing masks when in crowded places. No tickets will be issued. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Yuva
Team Yuva is composed of four young dancers, Varsha, Sphurti, Navya and Mathangi, from Kalpavriksha Fine Arts.
This team of dancers have collaborated and performed in various productions, at venues such as Esplanade Concourse, Tanglin Club, various temples, and many other venuesin Singapore.
The dancers come together through Bharatanatyam, bringing different perspectives and mindsets to convey their creativity through the beautiful Indian dance form.
Team Yuva would like to thank mentors Sridevi ma’am and Ponnamma ma’am for providing this opportunity, and KFA teachers Meera ma’am and Akshaya ma’am for guiding them through this journey.
