Synopsis

This performance is themed around Krishnarpanam, which symbolises the ultimate devotion to Lord Krishna. We have picked music from two distinct genres for this presentation: Carnatic music and abangs, which are a form of devotional poetry set to music.

The first piece is a thillana, which brings out the sweetness of the sound emanating from Krishna's flute, reflectinghow the whole world becomes exhilarated and feels joyful listening to it. The second piece is an abang, a soulful expression of humble devotion by Lord Panduraga of Pandharpur. Lord Panduraga sings this abang with complete devotion and surrender, in response to a caste-ridden society that denies entry into temple to those considered as lower caste.
