Deepavali is here and Paatti (Grandma) prepares her home for Deepavali with pretty lights and decorations. She gathers all the young guests and tells them the story of Naragasuran and how Deepavali became known as the festival of lights.
The fearsome Naragasuran was a demon king who tormented an entire village. However, after getting defeated by Sathyabama, Krishna’s wife, the demon repented on his deathbed. He did not want anyone to mourn his death and instead celebrate it with lights and happiness.
After the storytelling session, Paatti’s young guests will be invited to craft a paper lamp with light and other materials, to decorate and light up the space.
Performed by Rebekah Sangeetha Dorai for 18 – 20 Nov and Grace Kalaiselvi for 25 – 27 Nov.
