1. Ustad Zakir Hussain Zakir Hussain is widely considered as one of the greatest tabla players of all time. Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain made history at the Grammy Awards this year becoming the first Indian to win three trophies in a single night.
2. Tupac Mantilla, Colombian percussionist, Tupac has devoted most of his creative energy to developing his “solo percussion” and “body percussion” shows, for which he has gained a reputation as one of the most unique and charismatic performers on the modern music scene.
3. Melissa Hei, Hié, of Burkina Faso heritage, born in France and living in Bordeaux can draw fluency and complex rhythms from the djembe. Her combination of sincerity, musical deftness and joyful expressiveness are mesmerizing.
4. Pandit Navin Sharma Navin Sharma is a young master of the dholak (a double-headed hand drum from Indian folk tradition) and has been a disciple of Zakir Hussain’s father, the legendary maestro Alla Rakha.
5. Anantha Krishnan is a rare phenomenon in the world of music. Anantha started his musical journey on the mridangam and performed his first concert at the age of seven and before the age of twenty performed alongside a rare generation of Indian classical musicians.
6. Sabir Khan Sabir Khan has performed extensively both within India and internationally. His performances showcase the depth and beauty of the sarangi, an instrument known for its ability to evoke a wide range of emotions.
