Philharmonic Wind Orchestra flies the Singapore flag high as it brings a uniquely Singaporean programme to the world stage: the prestigious 2024 WASBE conference held in Gwangju-Gyeonggi, Korea.
Conducted by Music Director Dr. Leonard Tan, the concert will feature a dynamic selection of wind repertoire from around the world, with John Mackey’s irresistible Asphalt Cocktail opening the performance with a high.
After showcasing the rich tapestry of symphonic sounds and styles of international works, the second half of the concert brings the audience back to the shores of Singapore, featuring Singaporean compositions including the late Cultural Medallion recipient Leong Yoon Pin’s iconic Day-break and Sunrise, a premiere of the wind orchestral arrangement of Wang Chenwei’s The Sisters’ Islands, as well as the world premiere of a new PWO commission by young composer Jia Yi Lee. Joining PWO on this journey are Singaporean trumpet soloist Chong Loo Kit and PWO’s Principal Guest Conductor, Timothy Reynish MBE.
