Synopsis

2022 is the 100th death anniversary of the great French novelist Marcel Proust. Known for his seven-volume novel À la recherche du temps perdu (In Search of Lost Time) that features countless references to composers before and of his time – it was in fact at the Parisian music salon of Princesse de Polignac where avant-garde premieres of living French composers were heard – that much of Proust’s musical education took place.

Specially for young ones who are just starting out, don’t miss this morning of fun and learning with our engaging animateur and internationally-acclaimed classical chamber musicians at our upcoming pair of interactive Concerts for Children this 12 Nov 2022 at the Esplanade Recital Studio ~ featuring key numbers from Ravel‘s opera L’enfant et les sortilèges ‘The Child and the Spells’ transcribed for clarinet, violin, cello and piano !

L’enfant et les sortilèges ‘The Child and the Spells’

10am - for ages 0-6 (40 mins)

12noon - for ages 6-12 (40 mins)

After being punished by Mother for refusing to complete his homework and sticking out his tongue at her ~ the rude and naughty boy begins to throw a tantrum, destroying his room and hurting the Teapot and Chinese Cup, the Squirrel and Tom Cat, the Fire, kettle and Grandfather Clock. Even his books and the figures on the wallpaper were vandalised! To his surprise, his room starts to come alive and the tortured objects mourn, complain and threaten revenge! When he is drawn to the garden, even the Tree, Dragonfly, Bat and Frog team up against him! Do you think the objects and animals will have a change of heart?

Join us for a morning of fun and spells ~ and find out if this rude boy regains the affection of the objects and animals in his room and garden!
