“An extraordinary musician whose idiom straddles comfortably between genres of classical, jazz, world and film music... he possesses an original voice” – The Straits Times
TO ensemble presents a concert that reimagines the Carnival of the Animals suite by Camille Saint-Saens in a contemporary context with new arrangements, variation of his themes by award-winning composer-pianist Tze Toh, in a new kaleidoscope of sounds, blending Carnatic music, film score, jazz and the classical music idiom with modern grooves and harmony, and also expands the suite to include new animal character works based on ragas and alternative sounds.
The concert aspires to reinvent the idea of music in the 21st century as all-encompassing of diverse musical genres/cultures and people, while reigniting the intimate human connection with the land and its life/animals since the beginning of time. The same way that every single living thing has its own pulse, own rhythm, we, human beings and all life are in fact ONE with the natural world and part of this symphony of life.
Featuring Tze Toh (piano / keyboard), Lazar T. Sebastine (Carnatic violin), Teo Boon Chye (tenor sax) and Dai Da (er hu).
