This programme offers a platform for children and seniors to build confidence, teamwork and intergenerational bonds by playing the angklung together.
Big/Little Music Buddies – Intergenerational Angklung Project
February – May 2025
Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay is committed to making the arts accessible to all, including diverse and underserved communities. Since 2016, our Community Angklung Workshops have reached out to seniors in need, helping them stay active, build confidence and experience the joy of making music together. Playing the angklung in a group nurtures not just new skills, but also a sense of connection and belonging through shared musical experiences.
Over the years, Esplanade has brought these workshops to more than 100 social service agencies. In celebration of SG60, and in collaboration with the Agency for Integrated Care and PCF Sparkletots Preschool, Esplanade has specially conceived an intergenerational edition of the programme, Big/Little Music Buddies, bringing the young and old together through music-making. Beyond providing valuable learning experiences, the programme fosters mutual understanding, empathy and meaningful intergenerational bonds, creating shared moments that enrich lives and strengthen our sense of community.
