“From the moment that she arrives on stage, we are in the presence of greatness. Here is the gravitas, charisma, dignity and unparalleled artistry of a superstar.” London Dance, UK
“The unmistakable stamp of a flamenco superstar” Daily Telegraph, UK

From the freedom of Spain’s most beloved flamenco star Sara Baras’ heart is born Voces, suite flamenca (Voces, suite flamenco). This personal and spectacular homage salutes the great dance and music legends of flamenco: Paco de Lucia, Camarón de la Isla, Antonio Gades, Enrique Morente, Moraíto and Carmen Amaya.

Celebrated for her brilliant footwork, captivating stage presence and sleek choreography, Baras is known for being “a woman who can dance up not just a flamenco storm, but a hurricane” (The Guardian). Her latest creation Voces has toured the world to critical acclaim and now arrives in Singapore, marking the celebrated artists’ return to Esplanade’s da:ns festival.

Baras performs and leads a company of exceptional performers through 11 distinct pieces, paying tribute to the great voices that have shaped the passionate art form and Baras’ own artistry. Voces personifies the emotional spectrum that defines flamenco with impassioned dances of complex choreography and rhythmic footwork against the rousing live poetry and melodies of vocalists, guitarists and percussionists on stage.

Voces is “the voice that comes out of our dance, our song, our guitar. The voice that caresses the floor with the heels of our shoes, that hits with the incessant strength of our souls; it is a voice that with deep respect and total admiration, can only say… Ole and thank you.” (Santana De Yepes)
