Synopsis

These two short films by Singapore director Jonathan Choo explore fatherhood and the dynamics between parent and child.

 

Rehearsal
An actor discovers his son’s university application in the boot of his car, which was supposed to be mailed out a while ago. This film follows him around in his car as he attempts to come up with an excuse and solve this problem.

 

Reaction
A father and son involved in each other’s acting projects negotiate the quiet frustrations that come with deep familiarity.

Artist Information

Jonathan Choo

Born in 1989, Jonathan Choo is a graduate from the National Film and Television School with a MA in Directing Fiction. 

 

His shorts Han (2016), Rehearsal (2017), and Reaction (2021) have played in festivals worldwide.

 

Through his films, Jonathan has always hoped to tell stories about generational consequences within chamber family dynamics.

 

His latest short, Caifan Haiku, premiered at the International Competition section of the 64th Zinebi International Festival of Documentary and Short Film of Bilbao in 2022.
