This workshop by the puppeteers of Plexus Polaire explores the relation between performer and puppet and how it can be a “dramaturgical key”—why is it interesting to use puppets to tell a story? What can the puppet allow us to express differently than an actor?
A central part of the workshop will focus on “chorus-manipulation”; how a group of actors together can make a theatrical situation using play and improvisations, and at the same time give life to the puppet through precision of gestures and movements.
Participants will also work around the themes of presence and absence, understanding how the puppet can help make concrete an emotion or a state and allow the expression of both human and social themes.
The participants will work with puppets in three scales brought by the company: human sized, middle-sized and small puppets as well as objects.
This workshop is ideal for students and graduates of theatre and puppetry schools, theatre educators and practitioners who wish to develop their drama skills or become acquainted with the practice of puppetry and physical theatre.
Practical Information
Participants should bring dark-coloured clothing comfortable enough for movement.
