Synopsis

The opening show of the Singapore Flamenco Festival 2022, DUENDE is a flamenco production created with the collaboration of local dancers and musicians and our distinguished invited flamenco singer and guitarist.

 

Duende is the spirit of evocation, a heightened state of emotion, expression, and soul. It is the means by which artistes are able to channel their creative power and move audiences. To have duende in flamenco is the highest compliment. It is through this spirit of artistic excellence that an artiste is also able to draw audiences into duende.

 

Our invited artistes in DUENDE are leading contemporary musicians in Spain who play in festival circuits for top dancers. Having them collaborate with our company's best dancers and musicians enables us to present the best of flamenco in Singapore.

 

DUENDE encompasses the spectrum of flamenco—from its deep roots to its evolution with Latin and jazz influences. Dancers express a wide range of human emotion and conditions through a variety of flamenco styles, from deep sorrow and pain to joy and happiness, drawing audiences into an unforgettable journey of life.
