Synopsis

Watch Yaar Panj-aab Phangra kick off Kalaa Utsavam – Indian Festival of Arts 2022 with a lively Bhangra performance! Originating from the Punjab region in India, Bhangra originated as a folk dance that marked the arrival of the harvest season and has since evolved into a global phenomenon. This performance will be accompanied by exciting music created by dhol drums as well as short sets of lyrics known as boliyan, which have references to themes of love, devotion, strength and celebration.

Mask-wearing is optional. However, audiences are encouraged to continue to exercise responsibility and caution, such as wearing masks when in crowded places. No tickets will be issued. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Yaar Panj-aab Phangra (YPP) was founded in 2010 by a group of young dancers, who came together with the goal of bringing Bhangra to a wider audience. Since then, they have been very successful in sharing their culture all over Singapore and Asia. YPP has been innovators in modern Bhangra with creative styles fused with traditional foundation. The group aims to showcase their culture with current modern moves to be on par with Bhangra troupes the world over.
