Originally in Tamil and translated into English by its author, The Sunbird I Lost (2009) is a pensive reflection on daily life in a neighbourhood and what it means to look for purpose amidst the good and the bad.

Krishnamurthi Mathangi is a writer of speculative and literary fiction as well as classical and modern poetry. She holds a post-graduate degree in Tamil Literature, and has received awards such as Singapore Literature Prize Commendation Award in 2014 and the Shakthi Award for Best Women Poet the same year.

Mathangi’s works have been published widely in India, Malaysia and Singapore. Her poems have been selected for seven anthologies to date, including Fifty on 50, a unique anthology that reflects the rich multi-ethnic hues of Singapore through poems in English, Mandarin, Malay and Tamil by fifty poets, in celebration of Singapore’s 50th year of self-government and to the literary heritage of the young nation.
