There's no pain, just joy when Silica Gel’s around: following their explosive live show at Baybeats 2025, this beloved South Korean indie rock band returns to Singapore for a full-fledged performance!

Formed in 2013, the band—Kim Hanjoo, Kim Chunchu, Kim Geonjay, and Choi Woonghee—has crafted a distinctive sonic identity that blends psychedelia, art-rock, indie pop and experimental textures. Their name, inspired by the silica gel in a gum container, reflects the band’s spontaneous and adventurous approach to music-making—cheekily referred to by the band as “team-play rather than teamwork”.

The band spent their early years in South Korea’s independent scene, fully dedicated to their music and quietly making waves with their self-titled debut album in 2016—the same year they won three rookie awards at the Korean Music Awards. After an extended hiatus where the band completed their mandatory military service, Silica Gel returned in full force with two singles, Desert Eagle in 2021 and No Pain in 2022. While retaining the complexity of their earlier compositions, these singles featured soaring vocals, irresistibly catchy guitar hooks and earworm melodies that fueled the band’s upward trajectory. In 2023, they continued their streak with Tik Tak Tok, winning Best Modern Rock Song for the third consecutive year at the Korean Music Awards, as well as achieving the prestigious Musician of the Year award.

Deeply dedicated to their craft, the band continues to evolve their musical identity and push the boundaries of their sonic palette. On the heels of the release of their third full-length album in Aug 2026, Ballad of You, and nearly a year since their show at Esplanade in Oct 2025, the band will make their way back to Esplanade to greet fans in Singapore once again.
