Huayi Dialogues with Directors’ Panel: A Tale of Three Cities – Constructing Contemporary Aesthetics
Moderator: Liu Xiaoyi
Synopsis
The grand narratives of Beijing, the visual spectacle of Hong Kong and the avant-garde experiments of Taipei—what sparks will fly when three distinct theatrical visions collide in Singapore?
Moderator Liu Xiaoyi joins Li Ren (Beijing), Roy Szeto (Hong Kong) and Wang Chia-ming (Taipei) to probe their artistic minds and souls. The aesthetic future of Chinese-language theatre is put under a spotlight through insightful dialogue and candid interactions as this panel of theatre directors explores how they navigate the relationship between the classic and the contemporary, and how their cultural roots have shaped their artistic vocabulary.
This session is part of Huayi Dialogues, conceived and moderated by Singapore theatre practitioner Liu Xiaoyi.
Huayi Dialogues returns to examine and dissect the very core of theatre: its People and its Art. Co-curated with Singapore theatre practitioner Liu Xiaoyi, this year's edition features five illuminating sessions with theatre luminaries from Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Taipei, coming together to dissect the “bones” and “soul” of Chinese theatre.
