Part performance, part living sculpture, Still Lives transforms a fleeting moment into a shared space for reflection, revealing how personal memories, social relationships and cultural histories become entangled. Presented previously in cities such as Venice, Melbourne and Glasgow, Still Lives now arrives in Singapore.

As a special edition developed with Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, Still Lives: Singapore features RUDRA, Singapore’s pioneering Vedic metal band, whose journey ran alongside the nation’s rapid economic and cultural transformation since the 1990s.

Members and instruments of RUDRA are bound and suspended within intricate rope structures in the Singtel Waterfront Theatre at Esplanade, creating a visually arresting landscape through which audiences can reflect on the stories that shape Singapore’s cultural identity—particularly those that have existed beyond the mainstream.

This programme is presented as part of da:ns focus – Connect Asia Now (CAN), a weekend that spotlights contemporary dance works created by or in collaboration with Asian artists, focusing on distinct voices and creative impulses from the region.
