Esplanade Recital Studio
Rentas is a collaborative residency programme presented as part of Gemadah – Traditional Malay Music Festival. Violinist Ahmad Musta’in, under the mentorship of composer and artist Aidil Akmal, will work closely to develop new compositions inspired not only by the rhythms and melodies of traditional Malay music, but also its spirit, values, and subtle nuances. They will be joined by Fadhli Ramlee, who will lead the artistic direction of the concert.
Discover sounds that reflect the strong affinity between the musicians, their instruments, and the music they create. Driven by a shared desire to refine and redefine the boundaries of traditional music in today’s dynamic landscape, the ensemble seeks to inspire the next generation through creation and innovation.

Ahmad Mustain
Ahmad Mustain is a multidisciplinary musician and dedicated music educator, trained at LASALLE College of the Arts and versed in various genres from pop and jazz to grunge and traditional Malay music. A seasoned violinist with international performance experience across Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, Spain and the USA, he is a member of Orkestra Melayu Singapura and Orkestra Sri Temasek. Since the 2010s, he has taught violin and now serves as a music teacher with Singapore’s Ministry of Education, leading school music programmes and Chinese Orchestras, fostering students’ creativity, cultural appreciation, and 21st -century skills through innovative, cross- cultural, and technology-integrated teaching.
Aidil Akmal
Aidil Akmal is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and arranger with extensive experience in music performance, vocal and instrumental arrangement, audio editing, mixing, and composition. Known for his collaborative spirit, he fosters strong working relationships with musicians, producers, production teams, and audiences alike.
Fadhli Ramlee
Fadhli Ramlee is a multi-disciplinary artist versed in various forms of practice including traditional Malay dance, traditional music, as well as theatre works in acting, writing, and directing.
