Presenting a musical homage to the monumental artworks of Singaporean artist Lim Tze Peng, Brushstrokes, Strings & Air features five Singaporean composers responding to Mr Lim’s works from Nanyang-style depictions to calligraphy. The stimuli for these five new works based on Mr Lim’s art were considered based on the significance in his contribution to the Singaporean arts scene, as well as the adaptability and relevance of his works within the context of contemporary Chinese music that we are working with. As such, the concert will feature the five pieces performed as an audio-visual experience of music and Lim Tze Peng’s works, which will be projected on screen and whose elements will be employed as an inspiration for the set design. The concert features new works by Chew Jun An, Koh Cheng Jin, Rebecca Tan, Gu Wei, and Toh Yan Ee, for solo Chinese instruments: the sheng, yangqin, guzheng, matouqin, and pipa.
