Synopsis

Jin Xing Dance Theatre Shanghai is coming to Singapore with its modern dance production Trinity, debuting in January!

Jin Xing Dance Theatre Shanghai is making a grand return to Singapore!

In 2025, Jin Xing Dance Theatre Shanghai’s tour will kick off in Singapore, showcasing its renowned modern dance production Trinity on January 4th and 5th at the Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, marking its first appearance before Singaporean audiences.

As one of the signature works of the Jin Xing Dance Theatre Shanghai, Trinity has represented Chinese modern dance on numerous occasions around the world, earning widespread acclaim. Trinity consists of three dance pieces, each choreographed by a different artist from various countries. The arrangement of these pieces offers different versions of the production, and each with its unique frictions and flair. The upcoming performance will feature a version composed of Space 9, GUTS, and Cage Bird, created by renowned choreographers Jin Xing, Emanuel Gat, and Arthur Kuggeleyn, respectively.

Space 9

Choreographer & Costume Designer: Jin Xing

Composer: Alberto Iglesias

Space 9 is Jin Xing's latest choreographic work that premiered in December 2012. In her creation the choreographer used high heel shoes as a symbol of femininity stimulate a dialogue between the women and their accessories. The piece creates spaces where the dancers explore feelings of clarity vs. confusion, inner state of emotion vs. expression of live attitude.

The music is taken from Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar’s movie Talk to Her.

GUTS

Choreographer, Composer & Costume Designer: Emanuel Gat

The work focuses on the human body itself, illustrating the courage and strength among people through dancers' bodies.

Cage Birds

Choreographer:Arthur Kuggeleyn

Composer: Christian Meyer

Costume Designer: Jin Xing

There are all kinds of invisible cages in our life. Are we, self-caged or caged by others, willing to give up the protection provided by the cage to pursue freedom? Will obstacles and fears disable our ability to express love? This piece explores the bondage and expression of love through free dance.
