The quatrains of the Rubáiyát, the poems of the Tang dynasty, the psalms from the Old Testament—the timelessness of these verses from antiquity have long inspired composers past and present, creating a pool of works not just of great beauty, but also of deep profundity. These words spark the lushest of harmonies and the simplest of utterances, resulting in works that can move mountains and seas.
After a 7-year hiatus, The Philharmonic Chamber Choir returns with a programme of works that springs from these ancient texts. Some will be new to us, including the Singapore Premiere of Dr Zechariah Goh’s 废琴 (Abandoned Qin), while others such as Francisco Feliciano's Si Yahweh Ang Aking Pastol (The Lord is My Shepherd) and Takatomi Nobunga's Rubáiyát are familiar echoes of past stories we have told. We welcome you to join us in this new chapter of The Philharmonic Chamber Choir.
Ticket holders are invited to a post-concert talk.
